Just returned from a week at this hotel and wished I’d booked for two weeks! The hotel is lovely, spotlessly clean with beautiful grounds to walk around and a walkway to another smaller island. My room was fine with a very comfy bed, lots of storage space and a great view. As others have mentioned, it does seem odd to provide a kettle and cups but no tea, coffee or milk. I did buy some milk from the bar but it was UHT and not nice. However, there is a small supermarket in Rovinj near to where the ferry lands where you can buy anything you need. I was staying on a half board basis and the dining room did get very busy. The food is standard hotel buffet food but with a lot of variety and you could help yourself to as much wine or beer as you wanted at dinner. Because the weather was so good, I sat outside with friends most evenings which was lovely. There were some mosquitoes but I don’t think anyone was badly bitten. The outside pools were never very busy and the indoor pool and jacuzzi were excellent. Everywhere was well maintained and very clean. The ferry is every hour and very punctual and it only takes 20 minutes to reach the mainland. The old town of Rovinj was a real treat. Small cobbled streets which lead up to the church with lots of tiny shops. The newer part was also worth walking round with lots of restaurants and interesting shops. It really is a beautiful place. I always found the hotel staff very pleasant and helpful and they worked really hard to keep everything perfect. I can certainly recommend it.

“A beautiful relaxing holiday.”

Just returned from a week in this absolutely beautiful hotel. The setting is amazing, so peaceful. The staff, everyone, were so helpful and friendly. The place is spotless inside and out. The Buffet breakfast and Evening meal had something for all tastes along with refillable beers and wines. The pools are wonderful, the gardens and walks are a treat, just a lovely peaceful fun break. The hotel does cater to all but the majority of guests were German or Austrian. We had a garden view room which was fine, not much of a view but we only slept in it so not a problem Our only problems we could comment on was the air conditioning, we couldn't adjust it and it was very warm in the nights. Also, although there was a kettle there were no complimentary teas or coffee and the only way to boil it was to place it on the floor as no socket near to it, this was very dangerous, especially if you had children. There are mosquitos and they bite! There is no shop on the island to purchase refreshments for your room however there is a supermarket just up from where you catch the ferry on the mainland in Rovinj. Talking about the ferry, what a treat this was as a regular "on time" connection between the hotel on the island to Rovinj. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be visiting again soon hopefully.

Beautiful public areas with great views. Lovely beach and pools and I loved sitting on the terrace Rooms are a bit dated though and basic. We had a nasty view over the spa area which was in turns noisy when they turned the jacuzzi on and also got a full view then of rather large naked people getting in an out so didn't want to sit on the tiny balcony Bathroom very small and dingy. Shower door a bit broken and smelt of drains occassionally The buffet is not really premium and gets very crowded. Also given the demographic of the guests I was very surprised that there was no brown or rye bread. Croissants were very good though. After the 2nd day though we found a much quieter area on the left hand side to sit down We had half board, but went to Rovinj for 2 nights to eat as otherwise a bit repetitive and so many nice restaurants there You have to get the ferry over and we had a disaster 1 morning when we could not get on as so many tour groups leaving and everyone could not get on and a large Scandinavian group was barging eve everyone out of the way - very badly managed by the hotel Lots of nice restaurants in Rovinj - we really liked Maestral - lovely staff andf great grilled fish

Let me start by saying that the location of this hotel is idyllic, with wonderful views. I have stayed in many wonderful hotels around the world: however, this hotel was not one of them! The Maistre Select Island Hotel Istra did not live up to its four star rating. The accommodation is rather basic, rooms dated and in need of modernisation, and buffet restaurant reminiscent of a noisy works canteen. The constant miserable penny pinching of the hotel management became tiresome during our eleven day stay, some staff ok but many others miserable, unhelpful and rather rude. Pros: Plentiful sun loungers, nice swimming pools, great view from room, good air con in room (swiftly fixed when I complained it wasn’t working), punctual and efficient ferry service. Cons: sparse and utilitarian bedrooms, only two useable power sockets: outdated bathroom (I flooded ours the first time I had a shower, as the shower screen didn’t fit - I had to shower every time by crouching in the bath while holding the shower head aimed at the bath plug): a strange storage area where I couldn’t hang any of my dresses as wardrobe not full length, although I could hardly reach the rail: storage cupboards out of reach: miserable dank balcony that the sun never reached: expensive drinks all over the hotel and island: one bath towel and one small hand towel each, so thin and worn that I would have consigned to the bin: if you wanted a beach towel it was €4 each time. The thing that annoyed me most, however, was discovering that although our room had a tray with a kettle and two mugs, that was it….no coffee, tea or milk provided. Luckily, I had taken a box of tea bags, so when we arrived mid afternoon after a long journey, I went to ask for some milk…however, I was charged €2 for a tiny jug! As we were staying for 11 nights on half board, and had paid a considerable amount of money for the privilege, I felt this was excessive. When I queried this sum, the staff were both hostile and indifferent. I helped myself to sufficient milk for subsequent tea making from the buffet restaurant at breakfast time. This one incident enraged me to the extent that I will never return, and will not recommend to anyone else! In conclusion, i would say it would be better to stay in beautiful Rovinj, and just visit the island. if you asked me how I would rank this hotel, I would place it lower than the Travelodge at Worksop, but marginally better than the holiday camp at Minehead!
