“Returning to the Daiquiri was like going home❤️”

Just returned from the Daiquiri. After not being there for 5 years, we were reluctant to return due to the issues Cuba has been having, but our 7th time to this resort was a very pleasant surprise! Marcelino in the buffet has presented the food amazingly well. We honestly didn’t feel any shortages. We do hope they can resurrect the pizza oven for future when food supplies improve. We have to give a “shout out” to Hector and Mama on the grills. Service in the buffet and restaurants was wonderful. Hard working and lovely to talk to. Shout out to Gillian and Mavis. You always get amazing table service at the Mexican restaurant with Juan. This year we also met Michael who gave really good service as well at the Mexican and in the buffet. We can’t say enough about how beautiful the grounds are. Very lush green, lovely gardens and very clean. The gardeners are hard working in the heat to make it all happen. We loved to see our good friends Amaury, Aurelio, Roberto and Hector. These men are hardworking gardeners who always have time for a chat and teach you something new about Cuba. The bar staff make great drinks and are so sweet…Debray, Yandy and Yanette. Our housekeeping woman was fantastic. Our room was spotless with lovely extra touches. Mariaretta made our stay very comfortable. We loved to see that Iberostar Daiquiri no longer has plastic cups,straws nor water bottles. This resort is small and easy to get around. We will definitely return when able. We love you all our Cuban friends 🥰

I did lots of research on this resort and read so many reviews and joined the Facebook group. So if you're going to read any review- read this one. I picked this resort based on the reviews about the food being so good and there was no shortage, as much as I was reading there was at other resorts. People come here 5 times a year and "will be back" I have traveled all over Cuba for 20 years and my expectations are on par for Cuba. Our first impression was the wifi was down like all over the island- and was for a couple days, no biggie. The buffet closes at 10pm and the snack bar doesn't open until 1130pm so we were out of luck for food, glad we packed KD cups and Ramin noodle cups. Our room we were given was the worst I have ever seen in my years. The vents were disgusting, the room had an odd smell, the handle on the bathroom was falling off, TP not on the roll, stains on the top spread like someone had literally sat on mud and then on the bed for days. Sheets- it is what it is I expect them not 100%, same with the towels. The pullout bed was splitting at the seams, outlets falling out of the walls. It was awful. The beds are a TWIN, not Double, so more then 1 person per bed was a tight fit. We went to sleep and decided we have no choice but to wait until morning. I spoke with the front desk and told them my concerns, they said they would try to find me a new room. Around 2pm they did, and It was like night and day! Completely different and 100% better! They even offered a late check out complimentary or lobster dinner for all. I could not have been more grateful and appreciate the effort to change rooms for us. The maids were amazing and the room kept very clean- probably best I've seen in a long time too. You do get water in your room, however it is refilled glass bottles (never experienced this before) The resort is dated for sure, they are working on putting life back into it but it shows it's age. The pools are rarely busy, we noticed a couple days when the resort seemed full that it was hard to find chairs (shout out to the people who "save" 3 chairs for 2 people who don't show up until 230pm 🙄) The swim up bar pool is not the cleanest the other one is much cleaner! The beach is busy. You need to know this is the Atlatic side, so it's windy. There's a reason kite surfers love it here. Also the beach has seagrass about 10ft out, great for snorkeling, not great to enjoy the water much. You can walk to the right and there is a clear shallow part to enjoy. But it is well maintained and clean, softest sand. The food is honestly probably the best I've had in Cuba. No shortage. They cook pretty much everything fresh in front of you- Meats, pasta, fried rice, omelets, French toast, crepes to name a few. The bread is to die for and the donuts when they have them. The a la cartes Mexican and Italian, we loved the Italian. There are a lot of flies in the restaurant, hard to control I know but it's a little much. I found the waiters we not super attentive unless you gave them 💸 a reason to. Something I've never experienced before. The snack bar was pretty good everyday! (Not 24 hours by the way) A couple shout outs to the front desk staff-always kind and helpful. Gardener Roberto who brings coconuts poolside, is a very sweet man treat him well! The entertainment and shows were 10/10. Best I've seen in a while as well. The dr and nurse at the resort were hands down the best. My bf (what we thought) broke his foot on the second last day. They were so helpful in making sure we had crutches and a tensor, plus ice to keep him comfortable until we left the next day. They helped get him on the bus and you could tell they really cared. At the airport we had first hand porter pushing him around in the wheelchair and even came back to board him once our plane arrived. There is a Cigar guy on resort (and 4 shops) cigars are small 5 f or 15, large 5 for 25. You are a 45 min bus ride from the airport FYI. Although this may seem like a complaint post it's not. There were certainly some hiccups and I am well aware the dire situation Cubans are in, we are always grateful and bring lots of tips and products for the people. The resort is older, and I think older people do enjoy it or people who have not experienced anywhere else in Cuba. It is a great small resort for those with mobility issues. Just not my favorite that I've been to and things such as bed size and beach I was not aware of regardless of all the reviews I read.
