First time staying at the Azul although we come to Crete often. We chose half board as we usually self cater.and half board seemed exceptionally good value and worth trying. We arrived late at night and were pleasantly suprised at the cleanliness of our room and the facilities. Our room was spacious and had a smart TV, although it did have limited english programmes we found a channel with english films on in the evening. Plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space, air con and a safe both free of charge. The it also had a hairdryer. was quite large and we had good hot water although the hot water was absent from the sink the shower was great. Often in Greece bathrooms are very very basic this was not we even had a hairdryer. Only thing missing from the room was a kettle always something we appreciate in greece having brewing facilities and a drying rack to put your wet towels and swimwear on. We had good wifi both in our room and throughout the hotel. The breakfast was really good its self service and offered a variety of choice both for cooked food or cold. fruit, breads cereal and toast. In fact all the meals offered a great variety. Some guests complained to us that they didnt like the food as they couldnt recognise some of it. Some of it was greek food yes but signs were there to advise what it was and if all else failed you the pizzas were excellent. I think if people were expecting burgers chips and fried chicken then they would be disappointed but i prefer to eat good wholesome food and this was. We also bought lunch snacks from the bar whilst we were at the pooll and they were fantastic huge quantities of rasonably priced food. The pool is quite small but clean and sunbeds have lovely padded cushions, if the pool is busy its hard to find an available bed which we didnt mind as we went to the the beach where sun loungers are available along with a beach bar/taverna which sold really good food and beers. The beach is great very quiet and we loved swimming in the sea. The hotel has a bus stop right outside the entrance (bus tickets available at reception)so we went into Rethmynon and also to Pernamos a small fishing village not far away. We used the tennis court which was a bit rough and equipment best for kids. Our room opposite a grassed area kids could play football but the play equipment was old and looked a bid dodgy. I think biggest issue for us was the road noise its a very busy road and it was constant both during the day by the pool and evenings in your room. Wouldnt put me off going again though as the beach is very peaceful. i have to give a mention to the staff both housekeeping, bar and restaurant they are so lovely very hardworking and so friendly they are a credit to the hotel.
