I stay in April at Vasia spa and resort. On arrival, it was gone midnight where given a bag that contained a sandwich and an apple. Then, i was shown to the room where there were issues with the room provided. The manager at night gave advice for this, which was then addressed the next day by the manager. He offered me and my friend a new room where we shown with it and was very happy. Provided clean towels each day and water top up. Staff at reception booked taxis for us when leaving the hotel. All the staff were very friendly in particular katrina bar located by the children pool. I do recommend going to look round the town of sissi as there were some hidden gems.

“Scrap the Sunbeds”

Hotel is 4 star, our room was upgraded which was good The food is good but soon goes cold.The main dining room can get very busy and noisy . Entertainment was basic Karaoke and quizzes Only one night had a decent local trio. Things to improve. Sunbeds want replacing. Bathroom No bathrobes or slippers The bath and shower need handles in case of slipping . There is a upgrade to the Tourist Tax at all Greek Hotels .The Vasia hotel and spa charge 10 euro per room /per night .So 14 nights will cost you 140euros hotel tax.(not cheap). All staff are friendly and do a great job , despite working long hours.

“Not a 5 star hotel”

The good: - Food quality and choice was excellent. Everyone was very happy with this. Something to everyone and something different every day. The restaurant staff and chefs do a good job. The morning coffee is superb. However, Some all inclusive drinks good some not, the spirits used are cheaper and all the children said the coke and lemonade tasted like cheap syrup - a la Carte Italian included within price, although this wasn’t very good quality and the setting was just the same as the main buffet restaurant. The other 2 restaurants on site were closed, I assume because it was still out of season. - Great choices of pools and the slides and splash area for the children was a good addition. Great pool bar and lovely staff who manage this bar, provide nice drinks and snacks. Also plenty of sun beds for everyone - Hotel is in a good location to explore Sissi village on foot, a beautiful village with some excellent bars and restaurants. I’d recommend arriving from mid May as everything should be open for the season by then, good supermarkets right outside the hotel although we found a few places not yet open. However, to go further you will need some kind of transport. There is a free shuttle bus that will take you to near malia and the nearest sandy beach of Potomas, there is not a beach at the hotel. - The majority of staff are very friendly and are more than happy to help. The cleaning staff are brilliant and do an amazing job. We only had one issue with a staff member in the billiards room - see later on in the review - We had a ground floor room as we had requested but it wasn’t without issues and the noise from the rooms above us was unbearable. Like a herd of elephants stomping around at all hours and moving furniture. The other part of our party had a newer room. Garden / pool view that we had paid for would be pushing it. Had a view of the indoor pool mostly and all the pipework and flaky paint that goes with it. The cleaning and reception staff did accommodate our request for an earlier daily room clean due to our child’s nap times being right on the middle of the afternoon time they usually cleaned our room. We appreciated this. The bad and need improvements: - Bit of an issue when checking in as clearly 6 of us on my booking but they only appeared to have 1 room allocated to us. This type of communication issue became frequent with the reception staff. Quickly resolved though and both upgraded to superior family rooms which we were grateful for and one of them on the ground floor as requested due to age of child. - Tourist tax cost us another 140 euro upon arrival, for 2 rooms for 7 nights. As the hotel is classed as 5 star the tourist tax is the maximum of 10 euro a night per room. Hotel is not a 5 star hotel! This needs addressing as unnecessarily increases the cost of your holiday - One group in our party was taken to room by staff member and they said they would return for the rest of our party who were in another room in a different part of the hotel. They never returned so our other party were left trying to find their own room - Dated hotel and not 5 star. Maybe once upon a time. It’s all the little things that are missing that make the hotel not a 5 star hotel - one of our rooms was quite a dated room with dated furniture as per other reviews. Ours felt particularly old. Room 525. Was very dark inside even with lights on. Our room door was damaged and the electric fuse box kept clicking / ticking. Our shower also leaked all over the floor every time we used it. No shower curtain for the other shower above bath and screen fitted was useless. - Turns out there is an app for the hotel which we found a few days into our stay, has some useful information that the reception staff completely failed to mention but to use some of the app features you need a login or QR code which again the hotel didn’t make any reference to. Strange. - Gym hours of 9-6pm are terrible, as informed by reception. Then told it opens 10-6pm when at the gym. And in the Vasia app it says 10-7pm. Reception and gym staff need to communicate better. The opening hours of the gym are incredibly inconvenient and turns out it isn’t even open on a Sunday - limited general information given by reception had to keep going back to ask about things. Just a letter upon arriving which only really gave the all inclusive times and options. This type of lack of information became a common issue throughout the holiday. Again, something that would happen for a 5 star hotel - Got a courtesy shuttle to Potomas beach and was told they could only pick up and drop off at that location by reception staff. We walked into malia old town and ended up paying 40 euro for a taxi back. When we got back to the hotel the driver for the hotel said we should have rang because they would have still collected us from the old town. So yet another failed communication and information giving from the hotel - Easter party was held on the Saturday night in the village which the hotel completely failed to mention our taxi driver told us that they were surprised the hotel didn’t mention it because it’s really popular and fun for children. So many things that are a total mystery with the hotel staff not giving any or full and proper information - in the billiards room the Pool table broke as putting money in and we were then threatened by staff member saying they would go check cctv and they were then rude to us for the rest of the evening. Already number of machines out of order and this remained the case for the entire holiday. Not something you’d experience in a 5 star hotel. If you know you need staff to come and dispense the pool table in a particular way then there is obviously a problem. They also never had any 2 euro coins to change for the pool tables and games machines. - Check out process was as expected, with communications problems, the reception were asking for confirmation of our check out time and pick up time. Surely they should already know as the holiday was booked as a package with easy jet. Again another communication issue as they state this is why they put a letter through the door the evening before confirming these things, however the letter didn’t reference any of this it just said come to reception at your earliest convenience, which the morning of departure was convenient for us with a small child, something reception seemed to be rather put out by. Other : - Easy jet advise 1hr 50 mins on provided transfer from the airport so it is worth looking into arranging your own if travelling with children. I used Hoppa and secured a Mercedes mini bus return for £120 and it only took 40 mins Unfortunately I would not return to this hotel and I wouldn’t recommend it either. Ultimately it lacks a lot for a 5 star hotel. Its reality is that it is a 3 star hotel, easy jet need to address this with Vasia directly as we felt it was rather misleading. They desperately need to work on giving guests better and fuller information. The staff (not reception) and the food quality a choice are helpful to this hotel otherwise I fear its reviews would be of a very low score.
