After reading reviews on the hotel after we booked our trip to say I was dubious was an understatement. I was glad to be proven wrong. Our cottage was comfortable, clean and had a lovely new bathroom. The resort in general does need some general TLC in some places . The gardens were beautifully kept and the beaches were clean. Sun beds were plentiful and was never a struggle to find some place to sit and relax. Food was generally good. I am quite a picky eater but always found something to eat. The weekends were a little chaotic as it was generally busier. Took a while longer for tables to be cleared and new cutlery to be given but staff were genuinely busy. Drinks were plentiful with lots of choice - never ran out of anything whilst we were there. Most of the staff were extremely friendly when encountered - found staff at the main bar quite rude at times. We did venture out of the resort a few times to go to the shops and chemist. Will have people constantly coming up to you and hustling but with a polite no thank you they will leave you be. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will be looking to come back in the future.

I see where the negative reviews are coming from however we had a great time and chose not to focus on the negatives. The staff were great, especially in the main dining room. Our room (142) was great and cleaned perfectly every day. It was away from the main area which we soon came to appreciate. The biggest issue for me was the attitude of the majority of male staff at the resort, especially those on the bar, I just stopped tipping them after awhile... cannot quite put my finger on it but they just made me feel uncomfortable and the drinks they were mixing were not great either. I switched to the beer near the end which was fine. I think the attitude with the men is mainly directed towards other men (guests). Who cares at this point. Yes, the food was a challenge for sure but we found our way around it. Breakfast was great. The Jasmine (a la carte) pad thai was a mystery (what was that?!) but their red curry fish was delish, and their cheese burgers and wings for lunch were excellent - a welcomed break from the buffet. Great staff in the Jasmine too! The other a la carte was not so great and we never returned. Quick summary - it's a 3-star so very laid back, no hassle, no fuss and to those complainers about rudeness... I think sometimes you get what you give so be polite, smile, tip now and then (especially in that dining room - they work hard). I don't want to do a negative spin to clue this up but I have to say one last thing - The travel/flight portion of this vacation was our worst experience ever - I will never fly with Sunwing ever again - never! Thank goodness the week was filled with ocean, sun and sand is all I can say!

We certainly very much enjoyed our trip to Runaway Bay even though I was almost put off by some of the negative reviews previously. Let me say, however you look at this, there's no way anyone can give it 1 out of 5! To start with all the rooms are set either in pleasant well tended gardens or, like we had, a Beachfront bungalow. It was spacious, clean with a large bathroom and no more than 5 yards from a glorious white beach, turquoise sea, palm trees with white wine never more than 50 yards away in one of the 4 bars in the resort and plenty of well spread out sunbeds. Waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach was great. Some people have moaned about the food- one guy saying he was going out for pizza! Should anyone need reminding, this is the Caribbean so you are likely to get " different" food than at home! I found it generally very good especially Pineapple chicken and various fish dishes. It got busy at times, especially weekend when I think locals stayed over but if things were occasionally " casual" it may be because you're in Jamaica! The answer is take your time, relax a little and the staff will help you. The only valid moan is that they do run out of things, cutlery, coffee cups and worst of all white wine at the Thai a la carte restaurant! They had wine but not chilled even though they'd had all day to do it. Having said all that the staff always sorted things out quite quickly. We never waited long for anything. So it appears there are Management issues which continues to be surprising after numerous critical reviews on here. If they are seeing bad reviews why are they not solving the problems? The majority of the staff are friendly and helpful especially if you're friendly to them! Makes sense doesn't it? Seeing some of the miserable faces on some guests would put anybody off! So I have to say its a beautiful resort, nice rooms, very decent food, mostly decent staff ( maybe the lads at the main bar could smile now and again!) and we had a great holiday so please discount the voices of the 1 out of 5s because that score is truly nonsense. Keep an open mind, chill a bit, say "Yaa Mon" now and again and I'm sure you will enjoy it! If you just want Pizza and chips and want to moan all day just go to Blackpool next time! It's a long way to come if you didn't expect Jerk Chicken and a laid back atmosphere! I'm pretty sure we'll be back!!
