“Quaint and good value BUT ask for a room with a harbour view.”

We sat on our balcony (narrow, as they all are in old Valletta) with the twinkling lights of the Grand Harbour and The Three Cities spread out below us. Unbeatable view. This hotel is a good two star. It is clean. The furnishings are sufficient but basic. Shower room was big enough for one but the bedroom was vast. Aircon almost too effective. The hotel is made from a couple of old buildings knocked together so the corridor/staircase arrangement is eccentric. Reception helpful. A light switch which started playing up was fixed before we had time to report it. The room safes are manual; ask for a key. Slight drawback is other residents coming in late - the lack of carpets and soft furnishings mean that noise in the common areas echos round the whole building. The area within five minutes walk is full of street eateries where you dine to the sound of music (not normally amplified) wafting from somewhere. At the hotel, the "Panorama" restaurant is quite classy. I have also stayed in the Phoenicia which is in a different league - but without the view!

“Location and Views are Excellent. ”

We were relocated to the British Hotel having originally booked another establishment via Booking.com. We needed a room for a single night prior to a morning flight the following day. We were happy with the change but got the British Hotel mixed up with the British Suites. Both are in the same place but appear to offer different standards of accommodation. The hotel is right above Victoria Gate. It has parking spaces at the front and is a 5 mins walk in to the center of town. It is a great location. The receptionist was fantastic. Very friendly and polite. The checkin process was quick and easy. This was the only member of staff we met but if they are all as good it would be a great team. The room had a fantastic view across the Grand Harbour to the three cities. Waking up to this view or watching the sun set over the view is a rare privilege. The room itself was basic Four single beds, a tv, kettle and tea making facilities and a fridge. There was aircon which was very cold. The en-suit was tired. There was no hot water in the shower in the morning. We did not eat breakfast so cannot comment on the catering aspects of the hotel. One word of caution is that the hotel has a lot of steps. There is a lift but to get to our room still involved negotiating three sets of steps. Overall an OK stay for a single night. The view was the highlight. Not certain if it will be enough to pursuance next to return.

We didn't book this hotel room, it was done for us, but God alone knows what they asked for. It was right at the top of the hotel, through a weird door that looked as though it led into a cupboard. Two tiny, rock hard single beds were at either side of the room - not that that mattered, they were still only feet apart. The air conditioner, way up at the top of an insanely high wall (I think we were in the roof) did almost nothing, despite sounding like Concorde. Everything was the most basic of basic - the view, on the other hand was totally epic! But really. Hotel? I don't think so!
