“Excellent hotel with wonderful views.”

Excellent service, friendly and welcoming, a little way out of town for restaurants and bars etc, but a lovely 15 minute walk to town if the weather is fine. Breakfast excellent and rooms clean and comfortable, wonderful views across the river to ferragudo, definitely recommended.

A short but nice stay! We stayed in room 24.... If I remember correctly located in the Marina Sun part of the hotel, which is about a 5-7 minute walk from the main building around the marina (Lovely views) or a 1 minute ride on the golf buggy. Pros: - Spacious room. - Basic amenities in room such as microwave, singular hob and fridge are handy. - Nice variety at breakfast with fresh juices, fruits, hot food, pastries, yoghurts etc and an omelette station. - Lovely pool in the Marina Sun building (can't comment on the main pool) - Surrounding area is lovely and picturesque. - Drinks voucher given if housekeeping is avoided per night which is a nice sustainable incentive. - Joao was very friendly and told us to look out for the dolphins (we didn't get to see any but oh well). - One of the comfiest bed ever! - If you tell the reception team that you are checking out in the early hours they will give you a packed breakfast to go. It consisted of ham & cheese sandwich, banana, apple, cookies, drinking yoghurt, water. (It was devoured at the airport, super yummy) Cons: - No complimentary water, tea or coffee in room. There is a charge to consume them. - The parking area around the Sun Marina building is used by drifting cars at night. Slightly noisy. - Room amenities slightly outdated. - No tea towel, drying rack, washing up liquid or sponge in the kitchenette. - No basic cooking essentials available e.g salt, pepper, olive oil etc. We would return for sure and recommend to a friend. Our stay at the NH Marina Portimoa Resort was pleasant indeed. We had a nice view of the Marina, our room was sufficient for two adult women requiring two beds. Our stay at the NH Marina Portimoa Resort was pleasant indeed. We had a nice view of the Marina, our room was sufficient for two adult women requiring two beds. Parking was ample and to get into a out of town easy. A walking distance to the which was lovely to walk in the early morning. The breakfast was plentiful with a huge variety of foods. The coffee,well not the best. Rooms were clean and the entire staff incredibly polite a attentive. Some of the building needs some attention on the exterior but all in all it was well worth the stay. There needs to be a lounge chair in the room

“A mix of stars - 2* to 4*”

This is an interesting one. Its a mix of very good, okay and not good. To note - the room I stayed in (Deck) was not 4* - its a decent 3*, maybe. I have stayed at other NH places and 4* hotels and this is definitely not as good overall. Firstly, There does not appear to be enough cleaning staff at the hotel so early check-ins seem to be an issue even when the hotel is informed in advance. This made our first day tricky and inconvenient. The cleaners turnover the rooms until 1730 so when its raining as it was a few fays during my trip it is hard to just chill in the room and there isn't a comfortable bar area to just have a drink - its a tiny area within the dining room. The previous NH collection hotel I stayed at I was offered a glass of bubbles upon a arriving, the room was ready (noonish) and the room was spotless. Here, there was nothing upon arrival, staff were friendly enough although made excuses for the room not being ready and the reception area was heavily perfumed which not pleasant. Here there was no welcome explanation of breakfast times, hotel restaurant times and locations, where the local bus stops were, train station and I was not given an area map. Just to point out - every single hotel I have stayed at over the past 10 years has provided all of the above during check-in. The room itself was okay, very nice size but VERY basic hence the 3*, the floor around the toilet was not clean so I had to clean that myself, Bath tiles were dirty with mould, no room slippers (NH always provide them) so had to ask for them, and the balcony area walls had black dirt embedded into parts the wall. Clearly there is a cleaning issue. But there is good counter space to put your own stuff which was useful. I would not have a bath here - it just didn't look or feel clean enough. They need new bathrooms. There is a kitchenette area as in the hotel photos, but its not well equipped with usual things for a holiday - with no wine glasses and no tea towel to dry dishes. There is coffee and tea provided in the room but YOU TO PAY FOR THEM. I have never heard of this before and also didn't realise as it just never occurred to me that it wouldn't be complimentary - so there was a coffee capsule bill when I left. No complimentary biscuits etc as you would usually find in any hotel. It was basic. The room is big enough for a small indoor comfy seating area and table but there is nothing provided so no furniture to relax with when its cold or raining, or if you simply want to chill in your room before dinner or between activities. The bedroom door is not sealed so you can see light all around the door at night and the gap at the bottom of the door is pretty big and a bright strip of light will keep you up at night so I suggest taking a hand towel from the bathroom and setting it down across the bottom of the bedroom door to block the light. Also with the door not being sealed you can hear everything in the corridor as there is absolutely no sound proofing. This was an issue. The room was next to the outer door leading to the outside which slammed shut with every use so I had to complain and They took the closer off so the door could stay open - however people still slammed it shut. This is extremely loud whether your room is close or not - I was woken up a number of times so never had a good nights sleep. However, breakfast here is excellent so I would definitely give credit for that. Staff during breakfast were very efficient and helpful. The reception staff were friendly, some more than others. As a few people have mentioned the hotel is very close to a lovely beach and a short walk from the museum. A few shops in the main shopping streets but I am guessing people visit for the beaches so the rest of the area has been neglected in many ways. You need to look VERY hard for the good restaurants - ask reception as they gave some good recs. This wider area around the hotel is not somewhere for anyone who wants a selection of things to do. You need a car ideally for the freedom. Unfortunately I would not recommend staying here until they sort out the issues above. There might be better locations within the resort and better rooms so worth asking the hotel before booking.
