“Nice hotel”

Pretty hotel with a fabulous breakfast and a very delicious restaurant for dinner. Very friendly staff which speaks a lot of languages. Pretty rooms with a wonderful pool and a near supermarket and bus stop. And a shuttle that brings you to into the city center.

We have just thoroughly enjoyed our thirteenth stay in the Madeira Panoramico Hotel. Every member of staff is friendly, helpful and efficient, they all take pride in making your stay a pleasant one and are the main reason why we return over and over again! The hotel is situated a little way out of town and as long as you can manage the steep hills, it’s walkable to the town and also down to the lido area. We are of the ‘older generation’ and welcome the exercise. A courtesy bus to town is provided which runs for six days of the week and can be booked at reception. We always book a sea view room so that we can see the amazing view over the bay and wake to the sun rising over the Ilhas Desertas. This is a great hotel to visit for the New Year fireworks display. Breakfast is good and varied, offering both cooked and continental choices, it can be enjoyed on the veranda or in the main restaurant. We usually just book bed and breakfast choosing to eat some nights in the buffet or in the a la carte restaurant, the Paladar. We would recommend the O’Regional restaurant in the town and O’Dragoeiro on the way down to the Lido. Best place to people watch is the Golden Gate cafe/restaurant in the centre of town. The cable car trip up to Monte and the Monte Palace tropical gardens is worth doing. The tropical gardens are spectacular and the newly refurbished cafe at the bottom of the gardens is a lovely place to enjoy a coffee and the views. You can also get a bus (no.48) to Monte just uphill from the hotel, or no’s 20/21 from the town. The weather in Madeira is variable but this March we have been pleasantly surprised with the good weather. I usually check on the Madeira Webcams to see what other tourists are wearing to judge what clothes to pack. All we need to do now is to plan when we will be back!

A lovely hotel situated on a hillside overlooking Funchal. The hotel is very clean and tidy and well staffed.All of the staff are well mannered courteous and go out of their way to assist you. The breakfasts are plentiful and well organised.Little if no waiting due to the watchful eye of the manager every morning who misses nothing. Plates cleared efficiently and tables re laid in seconds without you noticing.A well oiled machine. Reception is always well staffed and again little waiting for a response. The Rooms are cleaned well and beds made to perfection. The beds are very comfortable with super pillows. There is entertainment most evenings and the happy hour is very competitive for quality drinks. You have to be very fit to walk up and down to the town. They provide a courtesy bus but you have to book it the day before and given that the majority of occupants during our stay were seniors the bus is oversubscribed. there is a bus stop at the end of the hotel drive to supplement this. It means you can’t really plan your day as unless you get a taxi or hire a car you are a bit tied. The rooms are lovely but there are a couple of daft things that are dangerous and a nuisance. Firstly there are two tiny door stops situated on the floor. One is directly by the toilet pan and is mounted exactly where you are guaranteed to stub your toes. We did. the other is by the wardrobe.Guess what you stub your toes again. Not a great idea when you come to Madeira to walk. The shower was also a nuisance. The off point is between the flexible shower head and the overhead fixed head. You have to be careful as you think you have shut it off after a nice warm shower only to get hit with cold water from the fixed head. It’s funny the first time but gets annoying after a while. We were situated at the back of the hotel. Lovely room with a balcony. No great view just some neighbouring properties but afternoon sun so great. But……….. Neighbours from hell. The dogs all start barking and howling from around 8.00am so forget the lie in. They (and I mean they) all seem to have a competition with some other dogs about 200 meters away. When you are within 20 feet of them it drives you mad. On Sundays the neighbour decides to light his garden fire. Needless to say if your balcony door is open your room and everything in it smells like you joined him in his recreational exploits. You are also left with the deposits of ash as a momento on your balcony. Finally at the rear of the building is a modern Church Tower. And yes you guessed it , it dings and dongs the time out in big bell chimes. My suggestion is that you go for the sea view rooms or just make sure you get up early and don’t spend a lot of time on your balcony. To sum up this is a great hotel. Small flaws and neighbours that are outside of its control. Given what we paid the tour operator it was absolutely great value for what we got. We will definitely return but will pay the extra for a front facing room.

The hotel is located out of the centre which gives you great views of the town centre, sea and the hills. The hotel is clean and the rooms have a good size comfortable bed , I think a little more storage would be better in the rooms. The hotel is located out of the centre which gives you great views of the town centre, sea and the hills. The hotel is clean and the rooms have a good size comfortable bed , I think a little more storage would be better in the rooms. The staff are professional and friendly and were very helpful. We stayed bed and breakfast, the breakfast had plenty of options and fresh fruit and the sun terrace is a great place to eat your breakfast and take in the fantastic view to start your day. We did not eat at the hotel other than breakfast. The hotel run a shuttle bus down to town and a return journey to the hotel to save you from the walk back up the hills. The pool bar and pool area were very clean and once again had a great view , the pool bar closed at 6pm which I think is a bit early maybe hours are extended in summer time. The hotel has a large cocktail bar which has a happy hour every day , we used this a couple of times but even if you miss cocktail hour drinks are reasonably priced. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel , but if we return to Madeira we would probably try and stay a little closer to the town or Lido.
