Just returned from first visit to the island of Madeira, had a very happy and comfortable stay at this boutique hotel and were most appreciative of the warm welcome and help. In particular I would like to mention the girls on reception, Nadia and Dulce. Both were so kind and always had a smile as we passed their desk. Dulce especially recommended tours and a lovely restaurant all of which we took advantage of and enjoyed. The hotel is comfortable, spotlessly clean and we were well provided with everything we required. We loved the comfy beds and beautiful sea view, and very much appreciated the courtesy shuttle into town. We had dinner on a couple of nights and the food was excellent and well presented. The terrace is so lovely for al fresco meals or drinks with comfy seating and wonderful sea views. Hotel location is ideal being about two miles outside the main part of Funchal, a couple of hundred yards from a very nice little shopping centre which includes the pharmacy and a supermarket and cafes. There are very good restaurants in the immediate area and you are close to the bus service which takes you to various locations including the town center although we were happy to make use of the free courtesy shuttle from the hotel. I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone coming to visit Madeira and I hope to return myself sometime and would certainly stay at the Madeira Regency Cliff again. I do hope you'll be kind enough to pass our comments onto the staff in question.

We moved to the Regency Cliff Hotel as a late change to our booking as our chosen hotel had construction work close by. As other's have said, this is a quirky hotel, built into the sheer cliff and the rooms are below reception. We had a sea view room with a balcony and a view across to the harbour and out to the open sea. This was a fabulous view and a great way to wake up and watch the sun rising.! We were staying for a week half-board. Food was plentiful and beautifully cooked. Kitchen staff were always checking and replenishing supplies and you helped yourself as a buffet service, apart from being served by waiter or waitress to any alcoholic drinks. Always a good range of food, tasty and a good selection, and the staff working throughout were incredibly polite, helpful and of course spoke excellent English. This hotel is in a great location, lido and seafront below (closed this time of year), and a promenade you can walk in 2 directions. The hotel puts on a courtesy car several times a day to drop off and pick up from the harbour in Funchal and we used that a couple of times, but there is a good local bus service, very reasonably priced, which takes you there in around 10 minutes. A lovely local supermarket with very reasonably priced food/drinks is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. We had 2 days spent round the pool, which is a small area with a tiny swimming pool which you can't do much more in than just cool down, not really any room to swim. And the water is absolutely freezing but very refreshing once you're in.! A poolside bar offers lunchtime food with a really plentiful selection and both soft and alcoholic drinks. Rooms are large, spacious, everything you need but quite dated and the aircon was quite tame. Tiny TV and you are charged for any tea/coffee which is a bit odd these days, I think most basic B&Bs give you this for free. We bought our own in the local supermarket. There is also a tiny fridge which had definitely seen better days, and was stocked with water which you had to pay for. We bought our own again from the supermarket and also some food stuff which we had to balance in the tiny fridge but were able to use it for this purpose. Shower in the bathroom was surprisingly powerful despite looking old and tired and beds (we ended up with twins pushed together) were large enough. Not many hangars for clothes but enough space for 2 people to put our clothes away. We did a lot of trips/sightseeing, mainly booked via our Rep but the hotel can book you onto trips too and there are kiosks selling trip tickets in the harbour. We walked miles, climbed a lot of hills, and saw a lot of the main sites in and around Funchal. We spent a full day on a guided trip around the West Coast of the island and Madeira is a beautiful, clean, tropical island. I would definitely recommend a trip to Madeira and we really enjoyed the Regency Cliff Hotel. I am sure if was very grand when it was first built, it has some lovely art deco touches outside. The communal areas are airy and modern, the cleaners are fabulous and friendly and keep everywhere beautifully clean, but certainly the bedroom we were allocated would benefit from a bit of modernisation and updating of furniture and amenities.

This hotel is in a stunning location and must have deserved its 4* rating when first opened but our room was definitely looking tired and in need of some TLC. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good but there were some rather unusual aspects to staying here which didn’t chime with 4*, namely Charged for additional tea and coffee sachets in room Charged per day for using room safe Request for additional hangers treated as unusual request ( we were staying for a month ) Dinner advertised from 7-9.00 pm but individual dishes were running out by 7.45pm Rooms serviced any time up to 5.00pm Indoor pool advertised as heated (told was 28 degrees) when it was really rather cold

Just returned today from a 7 night stay in the Regency Cliff hotel. We were just looking for a quick break before Christmas and got an extremely reasonable deal via Jet2. The hotel is well located in the Lido area, we were quickly checked in by friendly receptionist staff and allocated a room on floor 2. This hotel is built into the cliff, it’s one of those hotels where entrance and reception are on level 6, all rooms are below. We were very pleased with our room, large, clean, superb sea views, and absolutely silent. At no point during the holiday did we hear any other noise than the waves crashing on the rocks below, excellent. Breakfast each morning was ok. First morning the waiting staff provided pots of delicious coffee, but every other morning we had to crowd around a self service coffee machine for very poor quality. Fruit juices tasted very diluted so we stopped getting them. On the plus side, the hot food selection was always piping hot. We didn’t eat any other meals in hotel so can’t comment on them. Happy hour in the bar was each night between 6 and 7. We went there most evenings, rarely saw more than two other couples, really was lacking any atmosphere, maybe just that time of year. The bar staff were excellent, even making me a whisky sour off menu. Only entertainment was a keyboard player some nights for an hour, not good or at least not to our taste. Overall a good break, excellent value, great location, we would consider staying here again
