“Overall disappointing.”

April 2024. Just returned from a 7 night stay at Hotel Cap Negret. Don't be fooled by the pictures. Yes it looks beautiful but we were very disappointed. On arrival it definitely didn't look like a Luxe Collection 4 star hotel. At reception we were immediately asked if we wanted to up grade, we didn't think this would be necessary. We had booked and paid for a deluxe room and expected something rather good. If what they showed us was deluxe I dread to think what the other rooms were like. It was extremely small and something I had never experienced, no wardrobes. Just a small hanging rail on one wall. {it was only called deluxe because it had a sea view}. We complained and were told we could upgrade to the biggest suite. We did this at an extra cost of 525 euros, rather extortionate we thought, and then we were charged for fruit juices in the mini bar, which we were led to believe were included. In fairness this room was beautiful and turned out to be the best thing we did as everything else was disappointing. We did not see anywhere on the webside that this hotel predominantly, first and foremost, caters for cyclists, not just a few but hundreds. This made the restaurant, which isn't very big, a bit like a school/college canteen. There were very few spaces for couples as most of the cyclists arrived en masse and were given preferential treatment and reserved tables. They also had lots of meetings going on in various places, and very noisy. The food was okay, but really nothing special. The area around the hotel is extremely run down and scruffy and is a fair walk into Altea, which is a pleasant place. If you were expecting a beach holiday you will be disappointed. Nothing but stones and boulders. One positive is the pool area which is very nice. The hotel comes over as a bit run down, dull and a bit boring unless you're a cyclist. Wouldn't go back and, unless all you want to do is lay by the pool all day, wouldn't recommend.

We have just come home after our third stay in the last six months. The previous stays we have always been impressed with Cap Negret for the location, the helpful staff, the standard of rooms and whole hotel but this time we were disappointed somewhat right from arrival in the car park. When we pulled up in the car park at the side of the hotel looked up at the side of the building and it looked like a second rate apartment block not a four star hotel there were bikes stored on the balconies along with there travelling boxes, washing hanging up all over the place. I know the hotel is geared up for the cyclists but i understand there facilities provided for them for storage, laundry etc. The restaurant can be a nightmare when the cycling groups descend enmass some feel it is acceptable to come in still in sweaty cycling gear not nice for anybody else at the buffet. We were literally pushed out of the way a couple of times by them in their rush to get to the food and unacceptable that some of them were grabbing food with their hands which is a hygiene risk they seem totally unaware of other paying guests in the hotel. We felt that the ordinary paying guest comes second to the cyclists.
