You feel part of a family at Mai Samui. If you are looking for quiet surroundings, attentive staff and lovely food this is a place for you. Its Japanese inspired designed is centred around large pools, seaward facing. I can’t rate Mai Samui highly enough. The only negative I have read on Trip Advisor that I would agree with is, it’s not a place if you have mobility issues. Lots of stairs.

“A peaceful oasis.”

Excellent setting with own beach and ample area to swim. Staff very helpful and courteous. Breakfast, well presented, varied and calm atmosphere. Only reason not to give 5 star. We are in our 70’s and found it a slight challenge to negotiate the bridges over the pool areas to access reception, restaurant and bar, particularly when wet. There is no hand rail and, at night, bright red lights set in the bridge to help, actually made it more difficult. However, I would certainly recommend this resort.

I was travelling with my boyfriend for a week, we booked an all inclusive stay and was a bit apprehensive due to the lack of reviews detailing all inclusive stays. Check in - very fast process, was given the option of 2 different rooms and was able to check out both rooms before deciding however after 17 hours of travel we opted for a room with a sea view without looking around. The two men checking us in were very helpful. Room - we was in room A303 which was the top floor with sea and pool view, mini bar which is restocked daily with 4 water, 2 coke, 2 sprite, 2 orange juice, 2 pineapple juice and 2 beers. Our room had a king size bed and also a single bed. Lots of storage room, was clean and air conditioning worked absolutely fine. Had a shower which was great and also an outdoor bath/mini pool. Kettle and coffee was provided and also restocked daily. TV in the room which has Netflix etc. Our room was cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. Shower gel, hand wash, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner were also provided. Food - I can be quite fussy but was pleasantly surprised I didn’t have a bad meal, was plenty to choose from. The service was extremely slow especially considering how quiet the hotel was. Staff would often bring one drink and forget about the other but was always apologetic when reminded. Breakfast was an all you can eat buffet which was nice however the later you go the less chance you have at finding a table and fresh food. We had dinner one night at the restaurant closest to the beach which was really nice however they brought out desert with mains - which had melted by the time they had arrived at our table due to the 33 temp. I did notice however most of the staff wearing badges that say ‘I am training’. Room service is available up until 830pm as well as last orders in the restaurants. I think drinks are available up until 10pm. Seems early for an all inclusive stay. Cocktails were ok, I personally opted for the non alcoholic ones which were fantastic. Transport - on our first night we walked to the nearest groups of shops which I would not recommend took about 40 minutes up and down hills was not good in the heat. We got a taxi back which cost 300 baht. The following day we spoke to reception about a scooter and they offered to hire us one at 400 baht a day - was the best thing we could of done. Due to the location of the hotel if you want to explore the island the cheapest way to do this is definitely a scooter. A 40 minute walk will take you 5 minutes. Pool - I had read reviews about the pools being dirty and unsafe to swim in but they are fine, staff are constantly cleaning from the minute we woke up till after we got home from a day exploring. I think the tiles make the water look a funny colour. The only negative about the pool was unless you have a bottom floor room there are no sunbeds around the pool to relax these are only provided on the beach. Beach - beach is lovely, sea is very shallow, the sand is not soft it’s rocks and shells. We walked to the nearest town on the beach - again took about 40 minutes and was very hot there is beach bars along the route to stop off at. Spa - I booked an Aloe Vera massage which was 1250 baht for an hour - was nice but wasn’t the best. My boyfriend booked a foot massage and ended up having a Thai massage due to the language barrier. He wasn’t impressed with the Thai massage said was a waste of money. Overall was a lovely holiday but probably wouldn’t stay for as long if we was to return.
