We had a fantastic holiday at the best western bang tao everything about this hotel was excellent, food, pools, beach and especially the staff. The restaurant near the beach was great with freshly cooked food at lunchtime and evening and a lovely ambience, we celebrated our friends birthday while we were there and the hotel went out of their way to make it a memorable occasion. Thank you John for all your help before we arrived. Would definitely return and recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Lovely hotel, beautiful beachfront location, sadly let down by one thing…”

This was our 2nd visit. The Hotel is literally on the beachfront which is great for the views and a bit of a breeze. We arrived about 6 hours before our check in time due to our flights, but were given a lovely welcome. We were allowed to have breakfast, and then the person on Reception kindly arranged for our room to be cleaned so we could check in at about 10:30am. This was much appreciated as we were very jet lagged having missed a nights sleep. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The good quality mattress toppers are a welcome addition, and made the beds far more comfortable. Although the hotel has had some refurbishment works done in the past year or so, some of the fixtures and fittings are looking a bit tired. For example the Room door card reader was all peeling, and some of the walls in the corridors required some maintenance. Breakfast was good with an excellent selection of dishes, sadly they only did hash browns every 3-4 days which was disappointing as they were lovely and a must-have with a cooked breakfast. The bakery items (croissants etc) didn’t seem as good quality as they were before, they weren’t freshly baked, it was obvious they were from packets. The location of the Hotel in Bangtao was great, with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants just outside. The 7-11 shop literally opposite the hotel was a good place to buy water, ice creams and drinks etc. Be sure to visit Siam Mumbai Restaurant which is just outside the Hotel Reception to the right, they do Indian or Thai food and it was amazing. Excellent value for money and great friendly service too, we ate there 5 times during our recent 3 week stay! The one thing that really lets this hotel down is their smoking policy. When you check in they make you sign a ‘strict non-smoking’ policy, but it’s nothing short of a pretence, as they allow smoking in the bar, around both pools and pretty much anywhere else apart from Reception, and the 2 restaurants. We found ourselves having to constantly move when trying to sunbathe by the pool or overlooking the beach due to people smoking right by us. The almost constant disgusting smell of cigarette smoke around the resort (not to mention the health implications) did somewhat ruin our holiday. I would have to think carefully about whether I would return due to this. As other reviewers have previously suggested why don’t you have a designated smoking area away from the swimming pools? We recommend you visit Banana Beach, James Bond Island (use Simba Sea Trips for a small group tour), Phi Phi islands, Naka Market, Phuket Old Town Market on a Sunday, and Soi Dog Foundation. The Beach Restaurant at The Surin Resort which is a 5 star hotel just up the road was incredible, as was the Beach Restaurant at Intercontinental Resort just down the coast on the way to Patong. The Restaurants on the beach were good value, but a bit mixed in terms of quality.

We stayed here for 4 nights Bed & Breakfast & were upgraded. To say the room was an upgrade, it was in need of refurbishment. We stayed here for 4 nights Bed & Breakfast & were upgraded. To say the room was an upgrade, it was in need of refurbishment. Also desperately needed a dehumidifier as the walls were soaking with water from the air con. The card holder hanging off the wall & everything a bit dated all around the hotel. However, the staff were pleasant, maid was actually amazing and the rooms cleaned daily’. Came back to an amazing “happy birthday” touch for my daughter’s room . Pools were ok. Prices weren’t too expensive in the hotel. Mini bar was restocked and prices reasonable (we dont drink alcohol). Beach unfortunately had a lot of litter washing up, however staff worked hard in the mornings to clean up. I would rate this as a 4 and no more.

The negatives After a 12 hour night flight, we were the only passengers from our flight to arrive at this hotel at approximately 8am, but they still made us wait till 3pm still to check in. That evening we tried the buffet but thought the food though plentiful was of quite poor quality. The breakfast buffet each day was equally disappointing, there were no fresh pastries or bread, just cheap bakery items from plastic packets. The sea water was very murky looking and on our 2nd day the sea and the beach were full of jellyfish so we didn't venture into it again. The positives The large pool was fabulous for swimming and heated to a good temperature. The Relaxy Massage centre offered fantastically priced massages and spa treatments. The seafood restaurant was excellent and we ate there every lunch time and evening as we didn't feel the buffet provided good enough quality food. The staff there were also excellent. Overall we won't be returning as the 1st day experience was so poor we wouldn't want to repeat the ordeal.
