Fall in love with Seville from a new perspective. Sail the waters that saw goods and riches coming in from the Americas, remember the first circumnavigation of the world, or have a go at your favourite water sport on history-laden waters, on the banks of which Taifa King Al Mu'tamid found love. The River Guadalquivir, Great River for the Arabs and Betis for the Romans, will give you a new panoramic view of Seville and its neighbour Triana by showing you the city's most typical districts and monuments, such as the Convento de los Remedios (now a carriage museum), the Torre del Oro (Naval Museum), the Bullring, the Atarazanas, the Puente de Triana bridge, the king's timber store, etc. The river cools down the city in summer and its banks are lined with bars and restaurants where you'll experience unforgettable sunsets and nights out in an incomparable setting.
Since its makeover in 1992, the River Guadalquivir has become the place-to-be in the city given its unique vibe. Stroll along its banks, enjoy a boat trip, visit the aquarium, or watch the rowing, sailing, canoeing or kayaking championships that take place on its waters.
You can start preparing your trip to Seville right now. We've got all the information you need to make your trip perfect.
WHEN TO GO
Seville, the capital of Andalusia and the largest province in the region, can be visited throughout the year thanks to its Mediterranean climate which gives an average annual temperature of 18.5°C. Winters are mild and summers very hot, with maximum temperatures often topping 40°C. For example, the town of Écija is known as the 'Frying Pan of Andalusia' due to its scorching summers.
CAR RENTAL
The best way to discover Seville in all its splendour is by renting a car. Even though there's an excellent network of buses that connect the capital with the region's most important resorts and villages, the best way to get around is by car.
BY PLANE
Sevilla-San Pablo International Airport (SVQ) is one of the main gateways to the province, especially for foreign tourists. It is located 10 kilometres northeast of the capital. The terminal was designed by the architect Rafael Moneo and last year registered a total of 4,308,852 passengers. Organised trips and package tours Some travel agencies like ours offer organised trips and package tours that include flights, half- or full-board accommodation and airport transfers.
Seville boasts a huge range of accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets.
CITY HOTELS
For those who prefer to stay in the capital and other large towns in the province, Seville boasts a huge range of urban hotels and boutique properties located in emblematic buildings and near the main retail and entertainment hubs.
RURAL HOTELS
To savour a traditional atmosphere, there's nothing better than the province's charismatic rural hotels and magnificent restored villas nestled in idyllic surroundings.
In Spain, the official currency is the euro. As in the rest of the country, credit cards can be used in Seville for most payments, especially in tourist areas.
Off the beaten track, some small bars and local shops may only accept cash. Except in very small villages, there's an extensive network of cash machines throughout the province. Keep in mind that banks will charge commission for withdrawing money with cards from other banks.
