“Strategic and central location. ”

Stayed with family. Very convenient to travel around vienna as the train stop is just at doorstep. Lively area at the street in front of St Stephan cathedral. The noise downstair does not bother us at all in our room. Lots of restaurant in the area.

We stayed in The hotel which is located right on Stephenplatz as we wanted to be near the metro station for quick connect. The hotel was fine, clean, well lit. They provided tea and coffee machine. We stayed in The hotel which is located right on Stephenplatz as we wanted to be near the metro station for quick connect. The hotel was fine, clean, well lit. They provided tea and coffee machine. There were 2 separate beds with only one pillow. We did not have breakfast at the hotel,as cheaper alternatives were available in Billa mini market nearby. Overall it was a good hotel.

Hotel Royal's location is excellent. Just in the heart of Vienna. Rooms are spacious and clean. Decoration was simple and serving the purpose. The reception was very friendly and kind. Special Thanks! Breakfast is good - standard - without any surprises. Recommendations : in rooms a tall dressing mirror would be useful. Location of TV set was strange and size was small. Hotel in general needs some modernization. Otherwise, I strongly recommend Hotel Royal to those who wants to spend time in the heart of the city.

“Awful member of staff ruined our break away”

Firstly to start on the positives of which there are quite a few; the hotel is in an excellent location right on the main square. The reception staff are amazing - really friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but it was very nice and tasty with lots of choice. The staff in the ground floor restaurant were all lovely, very friendly and efficient. Our room was of a good standard although the shower could have been a bit bigger. We were a bit worried about the bed from reading previous reviews and yes the bed was on the hard side but saying that myself and my husband both slept really well. The information leaflet in the room does say that mattress toppers are available on request but we didn’t feel that we needed one. We also asked for an extra pillow each which was delivered very promptly to our room. The bar staff downstairs were really friendly and again couldn’t do enough for you. Now for the reason for the title of this review…. The main reason we booked to stay at The Royal was because of the roof top restaurant and cocktail bar. It looked amazing and couldn’t wait to enjoy a cocktail with a view. The first night after we arrived we went up to the roof top bar for a cocktail before we went out for the evening. We were met by a very rude member of staff who told us in a rude and obnoxious way that the restaurant and bar was closed for the evening for a private function. We were “allowed” to go and take a Quick Look at the bar area before her guests arrived but were told in no uncertain terms that we were not allowed to take long. She also told us that “her” restaurant was not part of the hotel. When we returned to the hotel later on we mentioned to the receptionist that we had wanted a cocktail earlier but we had been told the restaurant was closed for a private function. He told us that the bar was now open as the function had finished. We went up to the roof top and there were many tables free (easily around 6/7 if not more) we waited at the bar and the rude member of staff from earlier asked us if we wanted a drink. We asked if it would be possible to sit at one of the tables rather than on the bar stools as we had been on our feet all day and wanted to sit in a proper chair. She TOLD us “no you can’t sit there - if you want a drink then you have to sit here” We said but there are so many free tables and she told us “they are free but you can’t sit at them” she spoke to us like we were pieces of dirt and she was far too important to bother herself with us unless we did what she had told us to do. I told her she was being extremely rude and I didn’t like the way she was speaking to us and that it had really upset me. I said we would go and get a drink downstairs instead to which she replied “no you can’t get a drink downstairs they are far too busy to serve you, the only place you can have a drink is up here if you sit at the bar” honestly the way she spoke to us was absolutely disgusting she clearly shouldn’t have a job in hospitality it’s like she has a complete loathing of people. By the time we got back down to reception she was already on the phone to them talking about us. I made a complaint to reception about her disgusting behaviour towards us and said that she’s only phoned down because she knew how out of order her behaviour towards us had been. He said he would raise it with the management but I doubt they did. This member of staff completely ruined my stay as we were really looking forward to having cocktails and a meal one evening while sitting enjoying the roof top views. I can’t even express just how rude she was. Obviously a little bit of power has gone completely to her head. Such a shame as the hotel is nice but we will never return.
