This hotel is in the quiet neighbourhood of Käpylä, famed for its delightful wooden houses and green living space, which is in contrast to much of the rest of Helsinki’s concrete city dwellings. The area is lacking in eateries - Fins eat early and kitchens are shut by 8-9pm, except in centre - but even so the choice is limited. The hotel is walkable from Käpylä/Kottby station. Train to and from airport easy and costs under €5/person. Hotel is clean, which is a big tick. Beyond that, it’s not really great in any way. The lobby is dull and generally unwelcoming. The rooms are very basic, power sockets in awkward places. Some pictures on the walls/a headboard/anything would break up the cell-like styling (underfloor heating in bathroom was welcome). The breakfast was fine. The pool and sauna are only available to residents during breakfast hours... The restaurant was closed in the evenings. There is a small bar. There’s an Alepa (grocery chain) store across the road, with a cash point. The tram stop is right next to the hotel, with a ticket machine. Can’t buy tickets on the tram. Can pay on the bus. Both cost a couple of Euros per trip. We were advised that the tram doesn’t go the way we needed (towards centre). There is a bus, but timing-wise it was taxis only for us — and taxis are expensive in Helsinki. Hotels are expensive in Helsinki also, and this is a compromise, but it’s a compromise too far for me.

The hotel definitely looked better online than in real life. The entrance hall was quite bland, the room was decorated very conservatively, and the elevator is tiny. The room itself was very small too, and the bathroom was even smaller. There was a hole in the door of the bathroom, like someone punched through it, and the toilet seat fell over as you sat on it. This is a good cheap hotel but not an average one where you pay the price I did. There are saunas but they are divided by gender so if you go with a group you have to hire a separate one I believe. There is nice breakfast and a gym and the staff is quite friendly. It’s located kind of outside Helsinki or at least distant from the centre. I think there are better hotels definitely you could sleep in at the same price.

The hotel was close to Kottby station, which was about a 15-minute walk away. This station is 2 stops away from Helsinki Main station. The room was of average space, cleaned daily and also accessible via a lift. Soap, towels and shower gel were provided daily. There is a kettle in the room, with coffee, sugar, and tea provided. There is no fridge in the room. There is a convenient store across the road for added convenience. The trams also stop across the hotel. There is a spa room and pool in the basement of the hotel. It was easy to take the train from the station close to the hotel to Helsinki city centre and to the airport. Breakfast was good, but it was the same food every day. No water is provided in the room.
