What a find! A delightful place to stay just a few kilometres outside Guimarães in northern Portugal. With only 10 chalets which were very spacious and well appointed, the service was really personal. It was also lovely and quiet too. There is a very good restaurant and a great Spa/Wellness Centre on site which included a gym and pool, and which, with the spa facilities, was included in the price. The outdoor pool doesn't open until the end of May. The whole site was lovely and clean and the service excellent from very friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend a car if you stay here - a SatNav is helpful too if you don't know the area. There is plenty of car parking space. If self-catering there is a large Centro Commercial a few kilometres away with a hypermarket.

“Well equipped apartments in a relaxing environment.”

I´ve been staying two or three times in Encosta and I´ve always had a positive experience. This is an establishment located in the outskirts of Guimarães. It´s not very easy to find: driving along the road N310, you´ll see a small sign at the traffic lights just when you reaching an industrial area. Turn right into that small local road for a minute or two, until you see a rusty iron pilar signalling the entrance of Encosta. It consists in a set of apartments scattered in a vast green field. The apartments are very good: wide, impeccable clean, quiet, decorated in a sleek contemporary style but using a local traditional element as cork,fitted with a new and perfectly equipped kitchen and a good terrace above the garden. These individual apartments have two bedrooms -at least the ones I´ve been staying in- but you can also book them on a one bedroom basis. The good point of this place is that you are staying near the city -although you need to drive to get there- but in a rural environment. The complex also include sport facilities and a spa which is free -towels included- if you´re staying in Encosta. The spa is not very big, but very new and complete. There is a good indoor swimming pool -I´m not good at this, but I guess it might be 8X17 or so-, another pool with water beds and some jets -which work perfectly-, turkish bath and sauna. The spa has great windows overlooking the garden in which there is the outside swimming-pool, which is big too. The only downside is the high voltage cable crossing that garden at about ten metres above (there are some industries in the neighbourhood), but that´s nothing to worry about. Plus there are some other common areas: cafeteria, restaurant in another building. All an all, I think it´s a very convenient comfortable accommodation at a moderate price, ideal for those who are seeking a getaway or a well located base if you are exploring all the area.

“Good restaurant”

We went to the restaurant for lunch. There is always a nice buffet and wide selection plus different offers of menus at cheap prices. good selection of sea foods and meat dishes. nice selection of wine. Very good and fast service. Clean and knit.

The apartment is big enough for a family of four with two bedrooms, one of which has its own bathroom (so two bedrooms plus two bathrooms). The view is great in a peaceful location. The outside swimming pool looks amazing but it was a bit chill to give it a try (October). The spa area is very nice although some of the hidromasajes were not working.
