PROS: • located in the city centre • stunning views from your window if you request an outer room • great free coffee at breakfast • close to tourist attractions such as Puerta Del Sol, Royal Palace of Madrid and Plaza Mayor, as well as various stores (Desigual, Fnac, El Corte Ingles etc) & rest... more

PROS: • located in the city centre • stunning views from your window if you request an outer room • great free coffee at breakfast • close to tourist attractions such as Puerta Del Sol, Royal Palace of Madrid and Plaza Mayor, as well as various stores (Desigual, Fnac, El Corte Ingles etc) & restaurants (Taco Bell, local Spanish cuisine, sushi bars, McDonalds, Starbucks etc) • cheap prices for views one would usually have to pay in hundreds or thousands for! • a coffee machine in the room • clean bathroom upon the arrival, no complaints CONS: • the key card would often stop working and we had trouble getting into our room • not a hostal issue specifically, but the elevator in the building smelled so bad - just an fyi • if you're planning to go to the free breakfast offered by the hostal, I suggest NOT ordering tostada con jamón y queso (toast with ham and cheese) - I waited 20 minutes only for it to be served cold, clearly not even having touched a toaster, with no cheese and a slice of an awful ham that I couldn't bring myself to eat. on the other hand, there is a sandwich with salad, tomato and some other ingredients and according to a person accompanying me it was delicious, so you could give it a try instead i'm giving it 4 stars despite the 3 issues I had because after all it's a lower class hostal, so I didn't have much expectations - it serves its purpose. It's great that the breakfast & coffee are free, though I wish the staff took less than 20 minutes with preparing a single 3-ingredient sandwich, the location is super convenient, the cleaning staff is respectful and polite, the views are mind-blowing.

Small room, with private bath. But the room is good enough. Located on third floor, great view of the square below, that always seems to be full of people. Close to metro and 5 blocks from a very nice Casio ( Texas Holdem available). Many fine restaurants close by (some next door). Many Supermar... more

Small room, with private bath. But the room is good enough. Located on third floor, great view of the square below, that always seems to be full of people. Close to metro and 5 blocks from a very nice Casio ( Texas Holdem available). Many fine restaurants close by (some next door). Many Supermarkets within walking distance. Including the big El Corez Ingles department store (everything available). The front desk was very accommodating, they happily stored our bags after checkout. We sat and watched TV till flight time. They gave us direction to all the places we asked about. They all spoke very good English, and all very polite. Be patient with the slow and often busy elevator.

Hostal is located across Callao square on 8th floor on Gran Via 44 as name suggests. We had private room which was very small and had no closet space just couple of hangers. Hostal is located across Callao square on 8th floor on Gran Via 44 as name suggests. We had private room which was very small and had no closet space just couple of hangers. But it's perfectly adequate for people who need just a place to sleep. Bathroom was ok and toiletries provided. Reception is on 7th floor. Single elevator is small and constantly occupied. Also rooms are ready quite late, may be 3-5 pm.

2 night stay. There are lots of different reviews from people. So I wasn't sure what to expect. On the Main Street running through Madrid. Close to everything. Old building with small rooms inside. Very basic but clean and bright. No noise issues. On the 8th floor. The reception is on the 7th floor. I had a single room. Nice shower. Small room with window. No lift issues when I was here and I mostly used the stairs. It's basic but clean and I would stay here last minute again no problem. This is not a hostel.
