“Beautiful and relaxing, but …….”

This is a stunning, colonial style hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city. The rooms are superb, as is the hotel itself; beautiful nooks and cranny’s to walk through and sit. This is a stunning, colonial style hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city. The rooms are superb, as is the hotel itself; beautiful nooks and cranny’s to walk through and sit. A fantastic restaurant and bar, and a beautiful swimming pool area. However, whilst this should be a relaxing place to stay for couples, honeymooners and those just wishing to relax, there were during our stay, far too many young children with irresponsible parents, who did not care that their kids made as much noise screaming, shouting and crying as they could. There was no thought given for other guests who wanted to relax. This is not an appropriate hotel for families with young children. If you do come with young children, please be a responsible parent!! American families with young children by far the worst!

“Lovely looking, small hotel in the middle of the old city”

Spent 4 nights staying at the hotel during a tour of Thailand. Lovely, quiet, two storey hotel right in the middle of the old city but even though it’s in the middle of the town it was very quiet as surrounded by greenery with a long tree lined entrance well back from the road. You could easily miss both the front vehicular entrance and side pedestrian entrance as quite unassuming with only small hotel signs. We loved the design of the hotel built in the Lanna style set around small courtyards and with the 200-year-old tamarind tree in the centre. The hotel has a reasonable sized swimming pool with a few sun loungers mainly at one end but these were often all taken if arriving back in an afternoon. Being surrounded by trees the pool was fairly shaded so would suggest you find an alternative hotel if the pool is important to you. We stayed in one of the standard Lanna Rooms which was a reasonable size with everything you needed including two bottles of water replaced every day, a fridge, dressing gowns, slippers, hairdryer and a small bowl of fruit. The downside to our room was that it was very dark, we had no private terrace so no where to dry our swimming costumes plus because of the greenery we did have a problem with mosquitos in the room. The hotel does offer to put up a mosquito net when you check in which we had for the first night but asked for it to be taken down when we struggled to get in and out of the net at night (pulled it off the ceiling at one point). Instead we bought a can of mosquito spray from the nearest supermarket and used it to spray the room each night before going out which did the trick. The plus point to the hotel is its position as it’s in easy walk of a large number of the city’s temples (one or more on almost every street) and the city walls including the Tha Phae Gate plus plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel offers a walking tour three days a week which we did but to be honest we saw more when we went out on our own. We didn’t use either the bar or the restaurant but enjoyed the breakfast sat by the pool although the choice is fairly limited. Would be go back? Probably not as sure there are other hotels around at the same price with larger rooms, private terraces and a more open pool but do love Chiang Mai and would definitely recommend visiting the city if coming to Thailand.

“Noisy!”

This is a lovely hotel. Very quaint. Excellent service. Rooms are sweet and quirky. BUT - if you are remotely sensitive to noise or you want to sleep at night, this is not the place for you. This is a lovely hotel. Very quaint. Excellent service. Rooms are sweet and quirky. BUT - if you are remotely sensitive to noise or you want to sleep at night, this is not the place for you. Whether it’s very loud American tourists shouting in the day or a dog barking constantly for the majority of the night or the neighbours’ cockerels crowing from 5am, the cacophony of sound is pretty unbearable. Otherwise, it’s lovely. P.S. Luckily, the hotel provides earplugs. We certainly needed them!
