Legacy Ottoman Hotel

“Great Location”

We stayed at the Legacy Ottoman with a tour package. The location is perfect in the heart of the city near waterfront and the Bazarre. It is also about 15 minutes walk to the Palace. The rooms were comfortable with no issues. We really enjoyed the Turkish Massage downstairs.

The hotel is in a good location close to restaurants, spice market, Grand Bazaar and ferry terminal. Hotel is rather nice inside and lots of staff. Our room assigned on the first floor towards the street was noisy, Ac fan was noisy and jammed with a second bed we didn't need. So we asked for a better room with one bed and a quieter room which was on the fifth floor still overlooking the street. They have snacks out on the counter and lots of drinks in the mini bar. Be warned espially the snacks as they are not free. Only the coffee and water are complementary. Also the mini bar has a light on so it's bright light in the room at night. Rather annoying. The room is dated. Carpets needed replacing and the bathroom smelled. Plus there was mold. Pillows rather flat. Bed just OK. Breakfast restaurant was oknbut I say I didn't like much of the prepared food. The spa was outstanding. We decided to try the classic Turkish bath and did it as a couple. Amazing experience but pricy. We went down another time to get a sauna and had a good experience (free). The swimming pool was not in service unfortunately. Location - excellent Room - average and some aspects poor Spa - excellent Restaurant - average Staff - above average

This is a well placed hotel in Istanbul in that it is on the European side, a block from the train museum, and the Spice Market. It is a little out of the way for the Blue Mosque and such, but an easy walk for some. The streets can be very steep near the hotel, and the street is one-way, with very limited parking. The hotel wreaks of Old World Charm as you enter and the employees do seem to play the part. Then you get to the room. The door lock was tricky, the door deadbolt could not be engaged, the bath floor was dirty, the 220 VAC plugs either did not work or were too worn for holding the adapter, there was no bingo brush (a must in Europe), the television turned itself on and off and on all night, there were cracked tiles, and the there was mold on the sink and shower pipes where each entered the wall. The food in their restaurant was sub-par, and the coffee pot was not near a 220 VAC plug. They did have a fridge filled with 'stuff', but it was very annoying to have a clerk come into the room before we vacated it and do an inventory to see if we 'stole or used' something. The hall lights on the forth floor are 'motion sensor' activated and the ones near the room did NOT work, making it almost impossible to see the room number or the key slot. I attribute this '5-star' hotel's poor room to MANAGEMENT NOT doing their job, which seems to be a European fallacy as we have been in other nations with similar rooms.
