I've just spent two nights at the Tavistock Hotel with a group of very old friends: four Brits and four Danes. The hotel was booked by one of the Danes, partly because of its close proximity to a full variety of public transport, partly because of the reviews and partly and importantly because it was in a favourite part of London: Bloomsbury. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but when I walked in, I couldn't believe the warmth of the greeting from the member of staff at the door but also the warmth and helpfulness of the reception staff. When we arrived in our room, we saw that it had been recently newly and tastefully redecorated and looked modern and comfortable. It was spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. It was small with a very small en-suite. There was a walk-in shower which delivered only a relative trickle but in these water-shortage days it was absolutely fine. There was no air-conditioning so we had to resort to opening the window which meant it could be a little noisy, but this was not unexpected given we were near a busy road. My wife and I had paid a little extra for a park view room and we were so pleased. In summary, we were very happy with our room and its facilities although I should just add there is very little room for storing a large volume of clothes or heavy suitcases. This was not a problem for us as we were travelling relatively light. We had also booked breakfast. We were able to reserve a table for eight and the helpful staff were always around to make sure we were comfortable. We all found the breakfasts very much to our liking and plentiful. But what we all found noteworthy were the smartly dressed staff. Without exception, at all levels they were absolutely delightful: friendly, helpful, solicitous and never intrusive. When for example, we were attempting to take group photographs a member of staff would appear as if from nowhere to offer to take the picture. I could go on but I won't except to summarise by saying that we all loved our stay at The Tavistock with particular credit given to all the staff we encountered. In fact, they helped to guarantee a good stay. We hope it won’t be too long before we’re back.

We just returned home from another excellent stay at the Tavistock Hotel. We requested a room on a low floor near the elevators and received the perfect room. We love the rooms with a park view. The room is clean, comfortable and well appointed. Housekeeping was dependable and efficient. We had no issues with wifi- unlike stays at other hotels. The front desk staff were professional but friendly greeting us every time we left or arrived. I use a mobility device and often someone would rush over to the door to assist me in entering and exiting. We only went to the hotel breakfast once but it was a very nice buffet with many choices. The food was very good and the price fair. I loved that in addition to basic coffee I could get a cappuccino, latte, etc. We had dinner in the hotel pub one evening and it was very nice. Good food in a relaxing atmosphere. We feel that the hotel offers great service at very reasonable rates. We are looking forward to a return visit in June.

Great location just south of Euston Station, Tavistock is a no-frills hotel -- small rooms and just two lifts. The desk staff is great and if you're booking via email, you'll get a prompt response. Things to be aware of is that you pay for your full stay in advance: I've never had to cancel, so I can't comment on that; they also do not take AmEx -- not unusual in London but still ... really? The breakfast is typical with the usual hot foods, breads, and cereals. The staff there is a bit more rushed, but so are the travelers. Short story: great location, clean, friendly desk, and my regular hotel in London.
