The Randolph Hotel, By Graduate Hotels

“Golf holiday in Oxfordshire.”

Had our annual golf outing in Oxfordshire and made our base in the Randolph Hotel. It turned out to be a great 3 days, underpinned by the friendly staff, great food and really comfortable rooms. I would confidently recommend the Randolph to anyone who wished to have a base in Oxford.

Having previously stayed at The Randolph, my expectations were high. I am always made to feel so welcome. This visit was no exception. The staff are genuinely lovely. We were on a golf trip with friends. In the room on the right, at the back of the hotel, I forget its name, we found a box of Trivial Pursuit. I hadn't played it for years. This was an up to date version. We formed two teams and spent a couple of hours battling it out, with cocktails being brought to us by one of the staff. On one of the evenings we sat in The Morse Bar in front of a roaring fire drinking a fantastic yet inexpensive French Bordeaux. The Alice is as grand a room as you could imagine. To have breakfast in the Oxfordshire sunshine, sat on candy floss pink leather, under crystal-glass chandeliers is a wonderful way to start the day. The scrambled egg was so light and fluffy. And the gluten free cake was delicious. Now I'm back home I wish I could have the same. I had a bath in my room which, after a long round of golf was heavenly. From the goody bag awaiting us in the room to the valet parking, this is a five star experience.

“Lovely and very well located hotel!”

The hotel has the Oxford charm, very nicely appointed rooms in a classic style. It is very well located in the center of Oxford, and staff (mostly students!) is really helpful and nice. The rooms are spacious and quite comfortable as are the baths. I would certainly recommend it!

Some highs, some lows. Overall thoroughly average, but for the price. The highs: lovely sunny bar and area for breakfast, grand staircase, and a spacious (upgraded) room with a comfortable bed. The lows: the waffles for breakfast were perhaps the worst I’ve ever eaten (supremely heavy and doughy). Most surprisingly, I witnessed a member of staff return food from a plate into the buffet trays. I could not believe what I was seeing! The sheets on our bed had holes in them, probably from being bleached too many times. While they were certainly crisp and clean it was surprising to see (and feel) the overly treated fabric. Finally, the shower was generously sized, but the shower wand was so cheap that turning the water pressure on caused it to spin in its holder such that if you wanted to shower you had to hold it in your hand.
