I stayed at the YMCA hostel for 4 nights with my partner. So, the location is great, it’s safe, close to the subway, Times Square, Central Park and plenty other things. The shared bathrooms were surprisingly really good, they were safe, very clean 24/7, and plenty of them to use so we never had to wait around for a shower. The rooms are not the best, the floors with dirty and didn’t look as if they’d been cleaned, but that being said the bedding was very clean and was changed while we were there. Beds were comfy enough, air conditioning was ok but it did get hot, at least it blocks out the noise as the walls aren’t too thick. Staff at reception did their jobs but really didn’t seem interested in being helpful at all. Building felt secure at night, locked front door, security in lobby etc. Overall, if you want to explore NYC and won’t be spending much time in your room other than sleeping, it’s right for you, I would definitely recommend this hostel. Also, all the guests were families, couples etc, no dodgy individuals like you might expect in a hostel, so don’t be put off!

Stayed here for 3 nights in end March 2023. It's one of the reasonably priced properties in Manhattan, if you are booking relatively close to your travel date (ex. 2-3 mo out). The hostel is located right next to Central Park on Upper West side, and is walking distance from St. Columbus circle, 5th Avenue, Museum of Modern Art and other places of interest. If you are planning to be in downtown Manhattan, then the subway at St Columbus circle is a major station and a 5 min walk. The rooms are relatively small with bunk beds, and sparsely furnished (a table, a chair and bunk beds), but are clean and functional. The bathrooms are quite clean, so no complaints there. There is a vending machine downstairs if you want to buy some chips/ drinks etc. Luggage storage is available for a price from 7AM-7PM same day only, if required. There is a bakery, fresh fruit vendor, hot dog vendor and a Target store in 10 mins walking radius as well. One important thing to note - The hostel does not have a kitchen or a common area where you can cook or even heat/ microwave stuff. This is common in many hostels, and if you are banking on this, please re-think once. Apart from this, good hostel for its price point and location. Would definitely stay here again.

Firstly, this is a hostel - not a hotel. That is very clear on here and also on their website. It is basic; but has everyone that one may need for a decent and enjoyable stay. it is similarly in a superb location: with Central Park literally on the doorstep, Times Square 15 minutes walk away and the Natural History Museum 20 minutes walk away. I turned up quite late following a delayed flight and to my surprise; my debit-card wasn't working (as I hadn't informed my bank that I was travelling overseas) - as such, I was unable to pay for my room. This was no issue for the kind staff members behind the desk and they advised that I could pay for one night only and then pay for the rest when my card was operational. They ensured that I had alternative funds for food and drink and really did make me feel at ease. Thankfully, all was sorted the following day and I was able to pay my dues. The room is incredibly basic. I opted for a single room over a shared room; and had a bunk-bed (using the top bunk to lay ou clothing), with a desk, a television (with plenty of channels) and a small clothes rail. It was incredibly appropriate for a solo-trip where I would merely be sleeping - and, spending minimal time. It was cosy. The shower and toilet were on the same floor and were shared facilities. They were clean and never too busy. They were more than appropriate. Overall - an incredibly cosy room that was affordable and in an incredible location. For solo travellers on a budget: incredible.

The location was central and fantastic. The cost was far cheaper than anything else we could find. The location was central and fantastic. The cost was far cheaper than anything else we could find. However it did feel like a prison cell so myself and my friend spent hours exploring and just used the bed to sleep and recharge our batteries. The shared bathroom wasn’t great but functional. I don’t think I would return with my kids and/or husband. But a friends get together, on a budget, is bearable.
