Munich, Nuremberg and Berlin by train

Explore the attractive eastern part of Germany by train with fantastic stops in Munich, Nuremberg and Berlin

This railway journey gives you the chance to discover three of Germany's most attractive cities: Munich, the capital of Bavaria; Nuremberg, the city of the Nazi trials; and Berlin, the country's capital. Munich is a city with oodles of history under its belt, but which masterfully fuses tradition with modernity. Its pivotal epicentre is none other than the famous Marienplatz, which features three of the must-sees on any visit here: the Neues Rathaus, the Altes Rathaus and, of course, the Column of St. Mary. Other of the many attractions in Munich are the Cathedral, the Theatine Church and St. Michael's Church (in terms of religious art); its array of spectacular gardens, such as the Englischer Garten; the Deutsches Museum; all of its art galleries; and the Glyptothek Museum, to name just a few. And as one of the brewing capitals of the world, you can savour a huge selection of beers here, which obviously taste even better when accompanied by a typical Weisswurst, a Bavarian-style white sausage served with lashings of mustard. Car enthusiasts and petrolheads will love BMW Welt, which provides a fascinating insight into the history of the prestigious car manufacturer. And then it's time for the quintessential 'all aboard' to cover the distance between Munich and Nuremberg. Sit back and admire the stunning scenery of Germany as it passes by the window until you arrive in Nuremberg, a city that will forever be linked to the trials against the Nazis held after the Second World War. But it's much more than just this: it's home to an imperial castle and an old quarter surrounded by five kilometres of walls strewn with turrets; it's the birthplace of the leading German Renaissance artist, Albrecht Dürer; it's the venue of medieval singing contests; it's the site of the Sebalduskirche and Lorenzkirche churches; and it's the city of museums such as the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the Friedensmuseum (Peace Museum). An experience that's well worth enjoying at your leisure. The last stop on this fabulous railway journey is Berlin, the capital of Germany. It's a city with so many sights to see. Iconic landmarks include the Reichstag (Parliament), with its futuristic dome designed by Norman Foster; the Brandenburg Gate, symbol of German unity; the Gendarmenmarkt, a square partially reconstructed after the Second World War; the Berlin Wall, magnificently showcased along the East Side Gallery; and the world-famous Checkpoint Charlie, the US border crossing into the now extinct East Germany during the Cold War. The most modern part of Berlin, which centres around Potsdamer Platz, is home to state-of-the-art buildings such as the Sony Center and the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. Meanwhile, the Nikolaiviertel district boasts an array of restaurants and nightlife venues, whereas Friedrichstrasse is lined with a multitude of fashion stores and boutiques. And let's not forget other attractions such as Berlin Cathedral, Charlottenburg Palace, and the city's amazing museums that showcase truly unique pieces from the history of art. Experience the very best of eastern Germany by visiting Munich, Nuremberg and Berlin.
